Embracing Healing: May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Which means you’re about to hear a lot of:

  • “Check on your friends”

  • “Take care of yourself”

  • “It’s okay to not be okay”

And none of that is wrong.

But if you’re being honest?

That’s not what you’re typing into Google at 2 am.

You’re asking things like:

  • “Why do I feel numb but still functioning?”

  • “Why am I doing everything right and still feel off?”

  • “Why can’t I rest even when nothing is wrong?”

  • “Why do I feel disconnected from myself… and even from God?”

And no one is answering that clearly.

So let me.

You Don’t Just Have “Mental Health Struggles”

You’re not just stressed. You’re not just overwhelmed. And you’re definitely not failing at faith or discipline.

You’re braced.

Your nervous system has been under pressure for so long…it stopped trying to keep up—and started trying to protect you.

That’s what I call Functional Freeze.

It looks like:

  • You’re still showing up

  • Still handling responsibilities

  • Still doing what needs to be done

But inside?

There’s a flatness.A heaviness.A quiet “something’s not right”… that you can’t explain.

That’s not a mindset issue.

That’s your body saying:“I can’t keep carrying this at full intensity anymore.”

Why This Isn’t Getting Better (Even If You’re Trying)

This is the part most Mental Health Month conversations miss.

Because they focus on:

  • awareness

  • coping

  • encouragement

But they don’t explain why you’re still stuck.

Here’s why:

Your body doesn’t heal through pressure. It heals through safety.

And if your system has learned that:

  • rest isn’t safe

  • slowing down leads to disappointment

  • letting go means things fall apart

It will not let you fully relax even if your mind believes truth.

That’s why:

  • prayer alone hasn’t shifted it

  • pushing yourself hasn’t fixed it

  • “thinking positive” hasn’t touched it

Because this isn’t just in your thoughts, it’s in your body.

Mental Health Awareness—But Make It Honest

So yes, May is Mental Health Awareness Month. But let’s keep it real.

Mental health isn’t just:

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • stress

Sometimes it’s this:

You’ve been strong for so long…your body doesn’t know how to not be.

You’ve carried so much…that “rest” actually feels uncomfortable.

You’ve held everything together…so the idea of letting go feels like something might break.

So instead?

You stay in this middle space:

  • not falling apart

  • but not fully alive either

That’s Functional Freeze. And most women in it have no idea that’s what it is.

What Actually Starts to Shift This

Not more pressure. Not more “try harder.”

It starts here with micro moments where your body learns: “I’m allowed to soften and stop bracing.”

This might look like:

  • taking a breath and actually feeling it

  • noticing when your body tightens instead of ignoring it

  • letting yourself pause without explaining why

  • releasing responsibility that was never yours to carry

Not all at once.

Gently. Repeatedly.

Because you’re not broken.

You’ve just been in survival mode for longer than you realize.

If This Is You—Here’s Where You Go Next

If you’re reading this and thinking, “This is me. This is exactly what I haven’t been able to explain…”

Then this is the work.

Not fixing yourself. Not forcing change.

Simply learning how to come out of protection mode...safely.

That’s exactly what I walk you through inside Unfreeze Functional Freeze.

It’s simple, gentle, and it’s built for the version of you that’s already carrying a lot.

Because healing doesn’t happen when you push harder.

It happens when your body finally feels safe enough…to let go.

Final Truth Reset

You don’t need another reminder to “take care of your mental health.”

You need to understand: why it feels the way it does in the first place.

Because once you see that clearly? Everything starts to make sense.

And when things make sense, they can finally start to shift.
