Sleep Deprivation: The Overlooked Form of Self-Torture

Sleep deprivation is a form of torture, one that is forbidden according to the Geneva Convention international law.

And yet, we as a society choose to deprive ourselves of this gift from our God by either not giving careful attention as to why we aren’t sleeping well and/or by purposely keeping rhythm-disrupting schedules.


Either way—the ramifications for someone who is sleep deprived are massive.


When Sleep Loss Becomes a Way of Life


As any new momma can attest to, lack of sleep or nightly interruptions can have a major impact on daytime functioning. Poor concentration, reduced reaction times, and altered mood, just to name a few.

In children, sleep deprivation can affect behaviour and school performance. Rather than approach this with a holistic mind, many pros choose to label these things as brain fog, ADD/ADHD, and anxiety. All of which are valid, yet the root cause might just be from lack of adequate sleep.


Of course, long-term lack of sleep also raises your risk of obesity, diabetes, depression, high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease. All highly preventable diseases, BTW.

Frequency Fatigue: The Hidden Culprit

For those of us savvy to the whole person approach to correcting imbalances in the body, we may become frustrated when we attempt to deal with our stress yet still lack the proper amount of rest!

Turns out, it’s not only stress. It’s frequency fatigue.

Overstimulation, emotional loads weighing on you, and misaligned rhythms drain your body’s natural frequency.

Instead of only dealing with the stress in your life (though yes, do that too!!), it’s important to give attention to the high levels of unhealthy frequency flowing in and through you. Restoring your body to its original place of rest is key.


The Blue Screen Cycle

By now, we are all well aware of the dreaded blue screen.

We go from checking messages on a blue screen before our feet hit the floor, to opening the laptop during breakfast—if you take the time to participate in this time-honored tradition of eating—to staring at the same screen for roughly 6–8 hours, all while checking the phone 20 times an hour.

And then, we hop on our couch and flip on the TV or the laptop again to “chill” because the day got us like 🥱.

Then, we climb the stairs to bed, dog tired, only to hit the pillow and eyes spring open and the mind is humming like your desktop you forgot to turn off.

Your body is tired, but your mind refuses to quiet down.


What You’re Feeling Is Frequency Fatigue

That feeling is frequency fatigue—a kind of internal static that keeps your nervous system from fully dropping into rest.

In creation’s original blueprint, every living thing vibrates at a frequency of peace. The trees hum in stillness, the earth releases carbon and oxygen in rhythm, and our bodies—beautifully designed—are meant to align with those same patterns.

Wake when the sun rises, dim the lights as the sun sets, and sleep when the birds do.

We heal when we sleep. We release trapped emotions when we are in deep sleep. And while we sleep, our brain gets a literal scrub down and cleans up those unnecessary brain cells.


Living in the World, Not of It

While I am not advocating living off the grid, though attractive as that may be, this is also not necessarily God’s plan for His kids. In the world, not of it, something like that.

But we do need to declare war on frequency fatigue and take measures to reduce the amount of negative frequencies we allow into our lives.
