A Note from Jen

My purpose with The Healing Havens remains the same: I believe healing is holy.

Every drop of oil, every breath, every pause of stillness carries divine intention.

This is more than a website curated by yours truly. This is a ministry of restoration. We curate a place for people to release, reconnect, and most of all, remember they are wildly loved by our God. Take what you need, leave what's not for you. Either way, know that everything shared here was first created in prayer in order to see His kids walk free.

The Art of Rest

Collapsing into Rest is probably not the way to go

What if exhaustion isn’t proof that you worked hard enough?

What if sometimes it’s simply just evidence that you waited too long to rest?

What if it’s ample evidence that you’ve said “yes” one too many times?

There are 9 commandments that most people try to follow. Put God first, don’t steal or want your neighbors' stuff, don’t worship idols, honor mom and dad,  don’t kill people, don’t lie,  respect the Lord’s name, and don’t get in bed with people who aren’t your spouse.

For the most part, believers and even people who don’t believe in Jesus can agree that these are all stellar ideas to follow.

But it’s that 10th one that seems to give folks a run for their money.

Sabbath.

Rest.

Taking a day to chill.

Have you ever noticed that Jesus did most of His miracles on Shabbat?

Wild when you think of the implications.

Rest has become an art, one that was actually such a sweet gift from our God.

Women seem to have a harder time with the concept of rest than men.

We think things like,

"If I stop, things stop."

“It’s all on me.”

“If I don’t handle it, who will?”

"If there’s still work to do, I shouldn’t be resting.”

If I am capable of doing more, I should do more.”

Women as a whole tend to think they need to earn rest, and the way we know if it’s been properly earned is by sheer exhaustion.

If you’re exhausted, that is your permission slip to put your feet up for a few minutes. Maybe half the day.

But God has a better way. He always does.

Rest isn’t the reward for finishing everything, on account of nothing is ever truly finished.

There will always be another email.

Another load of laundry.

Another bill.

Another idea.

Another person who needs something.

Another favor.

Another practice.

Another…

If completion gives you permission to rest, you’ll never stop.

Resting before exhaustion sends in requires trust, belief, and the ability to hear your Father say, “Come sit quietly with Me”.

That’s the art of resting.

When you are completely depleted, you don’t have a choice but to stop. The real art is practicing stopping while you still have something left to give.

In October, we are fine-tuning the Art of Rest. It’s something we have practiced for over 6 years, and when Mark died, it became blindingly obvious that rest was imperative. When I didn’t rest, when I ran around like a crazy person, wondering how we were ever going to make it, bad decisions were made. But when we made the choice to stop, at least once a week, and daily, before our eyes couldn’t stay open any longer, peace reigned, and thoughts became clear.

Rest was a gift from God, not something to slip in once the demands of the day were met.

Something to consider this month;

On the Hebrew timeline, the day begins at sundown. Isn’t it interesting that the “day” starts as you and I are meant to lay our heads on a pillow? And while you sleep, the body heals, bit by bit, organ by organ, all night long. Emotions are gently released from the liver and kidneys. The lungs clear themselves out with a slight cough in the wee hours of the night. All this and more, so that by morning, when half the day is gone, you wake up refreshed and ready to complete your assignments.

Something to ponder as the days grow shorter.

October Musings

Why Pumpkin Spice?

Turns out, it's not just a trend.

On October 10, 2003, the Pumpkin Spice latte came on the scene. Fast forward 23 years, and PSLs, Iced PSLs, and other knockoffs of the flavor concoction litter the landscape of coffee shops now beginning in August. While we clamor for the deliciousness that reminds us all of Fall (why??) I’m also reminded that there are always excellent alternatives to this now-famed beverage.

It’s really not the pumpkin we crave but rather the spices, aromas, and flavors we’re after. Maybe it’s chasing a childhood memory, or maybe it’s just that we are all victims of some delicious media propaganda. Whatever the reason, the scents and flavors of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and clove are the objects of the season.

Making your own pumpkin spice has its advantages.

Not only can you control what goes into it, but you can also take advantage of some of the natural properties of the spices we instinctively seem to crave this time of year.

What’s interesting is that this is also the time of year when we all start scrambling to “boost” our immune systems. And perhaps these particular flavor cravings make more sense than we realize.

Cinnamon, clove, and ginger have long been valued for their naturally occurring compounds and their traditional use in supporting overall wellness. When you combine the warm, spicy aromas of Clove Vitality, Cinnamon Bark Vitality, and Ginger Vitality, you get something that is not only ridiculously delicious—it also makes a lovely addition to a wellness routine designed to support an already healthy immune system.

In other words, you don't have to choose between your pumpkin spice obsession and taking care of yourself.

You can have both.

And honestly, I'd rather have the real thing than another artificially flavored, sugar-loaded coffee drink trying to convince me that pumpkin is somehow involved.

A few drops of the right oils can give you that unmistakable fall flavor while bringing some genuinely interesting plant chemistry to the party.

The ONE thing I recommend to my Clients that they love the most

What if kids instinctively know how to move anger through the body?

Have you ever noticed kids running around like little wild things, screaming and yelling at the top of their lungs?

Have you ever noticed how most of the time they are cackling with laughter?

Or if at first they were totally pissed at someone, by the end, they are laughing like mad?

Has it ever occurred to you that this is how kids can stay so flexible emotionally, so open to the world around them, and perhaps, so free mentally?
