The Day the Power Came

Today is Pentecost.
The day that falls 50 days after we celebrate our Savior rising up after finishing all the work here.
Allow me to clear something up first. The Gregorian calendar is woefully inaccurate with regards to anything having to do with Hebrew feasts and appointed times. Many Christians celebrated Pentecost a month early because the Church does not understand he Hebrew calendar and that there is a leap month this year, giving two Adars.
So if you're wondering how come I think Pentecost is later than perhaps you had celebrated it- now you know. And hey! Just celebrate it again!
Pentecost, or Shavuot, is the day a double portion of God’s goodness is poured out.
First with the giving of Torah- not obsolete now, simply fulfilled. Pretty sure the rules still apply, just leveled up now.
Second- the giving of Holy Spirit, the one who comforts, guides, empowers and moves us mightily through our days.
There are many blessings associated with this day it’s hard to list, particularly as they pertain to us individually.
Yet this day goes largely unnoticed and certainly rarely acknowledged by the Church as a whole.
Perhaps it’s not as important since we don’t get all gussied up in fancy gear and go to church or create “Pentecost gift lists”.
We don’t rush to church to pray and read scripture all night long In anticipation of a fresh wind and fire of Holy Spirit. The apostles were caught doing this by Holy Spirit since staying up all night to read Torah was the tradition of the day.
I’m not sure why today, Shavuot/Pentecost isn’t largely celebrated by Christians as the equally most important day for our faith.
Without the giving of Holy Spirit, our faith is lame and powerless.
Without the indwelling of Holy Spirit, have no signs, no wonders flowing through any of us.
Without precious Holy Spirit coming, we have zero love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and temperance.
Without Holy Spirit we create weird demonstrations centered around gifts of Holy Spirit having ceased.

Signs, wonders, wisdom etc cannot be accomplished by sheer will power. It’s a supernatural deal- much like the Christian life.
My friends, if we are not daily tapping into the supernatural-ness of our being and our God, we become a lifeless and pitiful example of what the life of faith in Jesus is like. With a whole generation searching for supernatural, and being given the power by not God, one would think this would become insanely important.
I pray you pause today and RE-remember what we have because Holy Spirit literally blew into our lives.
I pray you celebrate this day with mass joy and thankfulness because it’s literally the best gift we’ve been given post resurrection.
Celebrate today like your life depends on it, friend, because when it’s all said and done without Holy Spirit, we are dead.
