Apparently Gen X has the highest suicide rate of all the generations, with Gen Z rapidly closing in on the stats. This is a race anyone should want to win, for a statement of the obvious.
The reasons for Gen X have become increasingly apparent as reels of our generation abound with tales of neglect, hardship and some straight up abuse. While these are meant to be funny, one cannot help but the pain and trauma behind every single one. Sarcasm is, after all, a front for deep anger and emotion pain.

Say what you will about this feral left to their own devices generation, but stats are stats and while there are those who soared effortlessly through early adulthood after growing up in this time, there are those who struggle daily. And sadly, some have lost the battle.
I share this not to be a completely and utter downer, not typically my style. Yet because of my work, I tend to talk about the things few are willing to address because well, they're just not pleasant.
Many would rather ask the doc for a med to help them cope or simply ignore it by running to other false refuges in the form of tasty foods and beverages or Netflix.
I share this to offer a lifeline of hope. Not THE way, just A way.
As we all know, the first step in receiving healing is admitting there is a problem. So corny and cliche, I know, but riddled with so much truth.
Acknowledging that there is a massive weight of negative emotions not dealt with buried is a huge step in the right direction. No need to think of the how will it get resolved, just acknowledge it’s there and we need to deal and heal.
Even that one step will begin to shift things in your emotion body.
There's one more step.
As we continue through May sharing mental health tips, I pray you listen carefully, that you pause and assess if you are one who needs a little extra help in this area. If so, that you would find the courage to speak up. I know we were raised with ‘children should be seen and not heard’, but let’s not let people should all over us anymore, mmmkay?
