May is Mental Health Month!

Anytime of the year is an awesome time to focus on mental wellness, yet since the country has labeled May as the appropriate time, I thought I’d roll with it.
Considering diseases and conditions stem from our emotional state, this ought to be an awareness every month, in my opinion.

Emotional wounds are a big deal but in my experience the topic is terrifically misunderstood. Many believe emotional hurts, trauma and even PTSD are only something that happens in a person who is a first responder or military of some sort. And while that may be true, it’s not exclusive to these men and women.

In our culture we qualify what is worthy of being “traumatic”. Doesn’t matter what you or I think about it, what matters is how the body receives & perceives the experience.

Understanding how to heal will propel you in every area of life. Knowing the level of trauma present gives you an understanding of why you’re triggered by what others might see as no big deal. It helps you stop, learn your specific triggers and head them off at the pass.

From military vets, to first responders, to mommas of children with various diagnosis’s, to families who’ve had to say goodbye to loved ones too soon- PTSD is very real, it’s a huge part of mental unrest and it’s rarely discussed because frankly, no one knows how or even what to do with it. Heaven forbid we get a little uncomfortable & messy.

I believe in a world where healed people come alongside and heal others.

As I journey through this month of May, this month deemed as Mental Health Awareness month, I hope you will follow along and consider some ways I share to assist you in becoming freer in your emotional wellbeing.
