Everyone Wants to See Miracles

Updated: Aug 7, 2024

But is everyone willing to be in a position to need one?

I began this article shortly before my husband passed away. I finally finished a year later as a reminder to myself to stop playing small. It's been two years since I finished it the first time and I find it interesting that now I have been able, by God's extreme and ridiculously amazing grace, been able to continue the work He began so long ago. I pray this article blesses you as well as challenges you.

Everyone wants a miracle until you are asked to put yourself in a position where you may require one. That's when it gets real.

"I would love to see miracles in my own life," to which I offer, "you need to posistion yourself for one". When I describe what that looks like, the conversation typically ceases once the idea of tangible security being lost is presented.

Security. We want it. We need it, desperately. Women, in particular need it in order to stay stable in their being. Yet our God offers mega amounts of His security. Sometimes it's not enough for us who are being human.

Folks are wringing their hands over the downfall of America and while yes, that is a legitimate concern, the gross lack of the presence of miracles & signs and wonders breaking out in our Western world ought to be a greater concern. Pretty sure if signs and miracles broke out in the nation, politics would take care of themselves.

Listen to this blog here.

What does one do with this scripture?

"17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Mark 16:17-18 TPT

And for those who are already saying that portion isn't found in the original text, what about this one found in John 14:12?

"1Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father."

Last I checked, Jesus did some pretty extraordinary miracles.

Is the bible true, or is it not?

If the bible is true, and if we believe it's for today, then why would we question what Jesus meant by this statement? Why are there dozens of articles on Google asing the question, "what did Jesus mean when He said we would do greater works"? Pretty sure He said what He said.

We all have the desire to see more signs and wonders in our lives, rightly so since our Lord said just one passage before this one "and all these signs will accompany those who have believed, yet from the amount of people I talk to about this topic it would seem we are a nation devoid of such happenings. Seems there's a disconnect.

When was the last time you allowed yourself to become comfortable with being uncomfortable? When was the last time you put yourself in a position to require a miracle, one that the task wouldn't be accomplished outside of a miracle? When was the last time you stepped out in great faith because you heard the word of the Lord in your ears and you just said, "yep, sounds good, let's do this together."

Friend, we came to this earth to live a fantastic and miraculous existence, to assist in the cleaning up of a ghetto planet that got a bit askewed a few millenia ago. We weren't meant to live a life of simply existing. We've given specific gifts and talents to use to be mountain movers, world changers, Kingdom advancers and enemy crushers.

All of us.

  • What if you took a risk that included being different from the world around you?

  • What if you chose daily to walk in a different path, one that was less traveled?

These two examples are not unrelated, by the way. Many a mother sits at the ball field totally neglecting her God given gifts all so her child can fulfill their dream. Watching the Olympics trials, I can't help but wonder as they pan the mom sitting there cheering her athlete on- did she fullfill her calling while helping her young one with theirs? I pray so.

How are children suppose to learn to be all that God created them to be, to take enormous leaps of faith if we don't lead by example? How will they ever be able to take risks and see the miraculous provision of their God?

I have wreslted over and over with my own words shared above in the last 3 years. It is stupid scary to step out of absolute comfort and into outright obscurity in knowing details. But one thing keeps me moving toward His calling, even when it's alarmingly vague- Him. God's relentless pursuit of me before I said yes to Jesus. That's it, just Him. How can I say no? How can you? He chased us down and said, "this one is MINE!" How can we tell Him, we'd rather take the safe path??

I mean, we can, but why would we??

To quote my fav disciple in scripture, "May it never be!"

I'm publishing this article again mostly for myself, but also, to challenge anyone who wants to see miracles flow in their lives, but are unwilling to step out in faith to do so. Stepping out in faith isn't always traipsing across the country or flying over to a foreign mission field. Those of us who do that are a special kind of wild and wooly that our God created specifically for that!

Stepping out in faith may look like asking a stranger if they're ok, or getting involved in your local school district- even if you don't have kids there. It could look like instead of going to church on a Sunday morning, going to a local park and prayer walking the park, praying over the people who are at the park- for them to feel a tangible touch from our God. Perhaps while you're at the park, the Lord will tap you and say, "Go pray for that lady, she just had horrible news and needs to know I still answer her." Or something like that...

For those wanting to walk in the miraculous, my friend, I can tell you- it starts small, and it starts with being willing.
